More pool, then more rain

The girls all went off to the pool, only to return a soaked mess! Apparently there was a wall of storms moving through that the weather reports failed to capture. I get that weather reporting is tricky, and we've made some major enhancements (see predictions on when Hurricane Laura would hit) but this seemed like a big miss. 20% chance of scattered light showers turned into a wall of strong thunderstorms across the entire Florida peninsula. Shrug, what do I know. 
So instead we spent a lot of time indoors today: reading, workbooks, drawing. We're keeping a close eye on activities to help us figure out what to bring with us for future legs of the trip. But honestly, some markers and a reem of printer paper seem to go a pretty long way. 

Still up in the air on where we head next, but I'm definitely not interested in hearing back home. The drama there has continued unfettered even while we're not home. Ugh. 

I know this country is in a weird spot right now, but you'd think people would want LESS bullshit not more. Apparently I am wrong. Much like the weather was today.

THE BOULDER

Yesterday, we made our first trip to Boulder, CO, recently named the best place to live by US News. It was definitely pretty cool, but the cost of houses is astronomical. Pearl street was cool, and some of the neighborhoods Pearl-adjacent were even better. I'm sure in a COVID free world it would be awesome walking around and eating out. But I think Boulder, like a lot of other similar-style cities (Burlington, VT or Old Town Alexandria come to mind) suffer from the COVID situation even worse.  Today, we left as soon as school ended and headed up into the mountains for a high-elevation hike out to a waterfall. It was really awesome - enough scrambling for the little goats to have fun but nothing too arduous. Overall great time at 8500'.  Tomorrow... Not sure. But I think Cheyenne, WY this weekend!

The End of this Phase

Tomorrow, we're heading home. It's been a while since we left, over 6 weeks since we headed west.  We've seen some stuff... We've also seen some shit. People in this country can be amazing or down right awful, but it's been a wild trip for sure.  Austin-wise, I think we'll need to come back post COVID. While we used Denver mostly as a base to go hiking and exploring, it seems like the jam in Austin is more social, so I think we're not really getting the whole sense is this place. I'll tell you though, it is NOT flat. I went for a bike ride and damn! Those were some hills.  Most of our time was spent trying out different Texas meat specialties: bbq, tacos, etc. We also got some rather solid sushi with friends this week, which was a nice change of pace from all the red meat! And the girls got to play with discuss chickens (live ones) while the adults played catch up.  I am looking forward to getting home, but this trip has helped us all learn a lot: - that
